Who We Support

PROJECT LIFESAVER – A county sponsored public safety program designed to locate missing persons suffering from dementia-type disorders. Participants are provided with a personalized wristband that emits an automatic tracking Signal every second 24/7. The Camillus PBA has donated batteries for participants. For details on how this program can provide peace of mind to caregivers and family members, call the Camillus Police Department.

CAMILLUS CHILD IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM – A unique program designed to help parents and caregivers be prepared should an emergency happen. Each ID record includes a full set of the child’s fingerprints (inkless scan), DNA sample, photo, vital physical and medical information, plus contact information that can be instantly provided to emergency personnel. A complete copy of this record on a CD is also given to the parents to store at home. We contribute money to this special community service and it is available by appointment at the Camillus Police Department and at Open House events held during the year( at no charge).

THANKSGIVING BASKETS – Hidden away in the needy areas of our town are families who are less fortunate and face difficult times. This annual program provides a turkey and complete dinner so they too may enjoy this special day.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM – When tough times hit tender children, especially at holiday time, the PBA tries to be there with warm clothing, mittens and a toy or two!

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – One $500 PBA scholarships was awarded to a college bound graduate from West Genesee High School who expressed a determined interest in preparing for some aspect of  the criminal justice system.

PROJECT C.O.D.E. – A positive educational program created specifically for students of the West Genesee School District.  C.O.D.E. stands for Community Oriented Drug Education. The West Genesee School District in cooperation with the Town of Camillus Police Department has carefully designed the C.O.D.E. program to extend the positive results of the former D.A.R.E. program by specifically addressing the concerns and needs of the students and families in our community.  Town of Camillus officers are still instructing the fifth grade students with a curriculum that is tailor made for our community.

BIKE RIDER HELMETS – Onondaga County law now requires cyclists 18 years old and younger to wear helmets.  Realizing a number of youngsters would no longer be able to ride their bikes due to the cost of the helmets and low family incomes, the PBA provides helmets for these youngsters so they may ride safely.  Happy, grateful faces are the return on this investment.

AFTER-THE-FORMAL INFORMAL – A non-alcoholic party held after the Senior Prom.  A program the PBA gives financial support to, Off-Duty and On-Duty we see as having a positive impact.

COMMUNITY BANDSTAND CONCERTS – Your response to the Wednesday Night Summer Concert Series at the PBA Bandstand has been tremendous. The PBA is happy to sponsor this series along with refreshments for those who attend.

RACE FOR RESPECT – This positive educational program focuses on young people learning the importance of respect and consideration of others In their daily activities-at home, in school and in our community. The PBA provides prize-winning T-shirts for participants.

VILLAGE PARK BENCHES – The many benches you see in our community were provided by the PBA and installed by the Village.

POLICE CADET PROGRAM – The PBA is actively involved in, and provides on-going support for the Town of Camillus Police Cadet Program.

POLICE DEPARTMENT TOUR PROGRAM – Guided tours for school classes, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other groups. Youngsters can meet the police officers and see how the department functions to prevent crimes and accidents and the response when one is reported.

FREE LOANER CAR SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM – Another PBA sponsored community safety program designed especially for grandparents who have young children visiting but who lack the necessary car safety seat should they want to take these loved ones for a drive, visit the zoo, etc. The PBA makes available these seats on loan at no cost! Simply apply at the Town of Camillus Police Department.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES – The PBA believes organized sports promote good health, provide a positive outlet for youthful energy, and are an effective method of keeping young people away from drugs, alcohol and crime.  Off Duty, several officers serve as volunteer coaches in the high school athletic program. With other groups, the demand for sponsorship grows each year and the PBA attempts to meet these needs. The following groups received support and funding:
